HOLIDAY LIGHTS SAFETY CHECKLIST

Holiday lights safety checklist. Inspect the light strings. Check each set of lights, new or old, for broken or cracked sockets, frayed or bare wires, or loose connections. Throw away damages sets or repair them before using. Always unplug electrical decorations before replacing bulbs or fuses. Replace any burned-out bulbs. Use UL-approved hangers. Avoid using staples and nails to attach light strings. Make sure the cords are not pinched in doors, windows, or under heavy furniture, which could damage the cord’s insulation. Turn off all indoor and outdoor electrical decorations before leaving the home or going to sleep. Knowing how to properly install and maintain your holiday lights could make a difference. When the holiday season comes to an end, store all outdoor and indoor lights in a well-sealed container to prevent water damage and rodent access.
